In-Person or Virtual Coaching For Your First Home

TThis service will act as the "owner's manual" for your home - a manual that the previous owners of your home forgot to leave behind. Whether we meet at your home or virtually connect, we will tour your home to learn about the essential services and systems that will help you to run your home efficiently. From the outside of the home to the essential systems inside, we will cover the basics of landscaping, lawn care, and a emergency checklist for the weather. Finally, it will be an open forum for any "random" questions that you may have accumulated over time.

How this differs from a Home Inspection
Again, this is not a home inspection. The inspector is looking for all the defects and red flags so that you can decide whether or not to purchase the home. My service begins after you’ve moved in. Instead of looking for what is broken about your home, I’ll show you how to use what you have. Think of home inspections as similar to medical checkups for finding all the problems with your body versus this service being the equivalent of learning how to take care of your body yourself. Where the inspector will provide you with a report of all the issues with your home, I will provide you with the knowledge and confidence to take care of your home on your own for the long term.

Real Client Feedback

I am a single mother and bought my first house and had no idea what I was doing. Mark's knowledge gave me the confidence.

I bought my first house in South Windsor with my husband and 4 kids, Mark came over and walked us through a ton of general knowledge we just didnt know. For example, I never had a garden and he told us immediately how to revive some plants that were dying.

I bought a small condo in a tough market, I didnt have an inspection. Mark helped me figure out that my AC filter needed changing after showing years worth of debris.

Your Questions Answered

Home inspection reports are pass/fail reports meant to find defects before you buy a home. Your home inspection report will be an educational report provided after you move into your home. While a home inspector will show you what is wrong with your home, I will show you how it works, where things are located in your home, and how to maintain and fix common issues with your property yourself. Think of it as going from a medical diagnosis to receiving a personal training program for your home.

Yes, but it depends on your personal comfort with being virtual. Using your smartphone or tablet, I can show you exactly what I’m looking at in your home - whether it’s your furnace or the main water shut-off - and you can see it on the screen with me as I point to the areas. I tend to be able to diagnose the same issues with the same ease whether I’m in your home or on a video call. This is a great option for those with busy schedules.

This is exactly who I built this for. I am very good at explaining technical ideas in plain English. There are no dumb questions. We start with the basics of the tools you need in your kit and work up to the larger systems of your home so you feel more confident in your ability to maintain your property.

Bring them! While I have a curated list of items that I address during this service, I always ask if there are any additional questions that you would like to ask me. Many people use this as an opportunity to clear out a backlog of questions that they have accumulated since moving into their home. Whether it’s a question about a weird noise in the pipes, how to prune their shrubs, or some other home improvement project, I’m happy to help!

Yes. Regardless of whether we are in person or virtual appointments, I’ll provide you with a summary of the systems discussed and a maintenance calendar for the home.

We’ll look at the “big picture” of your property to ensure you have the best possible yard care routine. This will include looking at your lawn care schedules, your plant categories and how to prune them, gutter maintenance, and how to prepare your yard for the snow or storms of Connecticut.

This is primarily an educational service. I may show you how to fix something small during our time together, but the goal is to provide you with the knowledge and the “why” behind the repairs so you can either fix it yourself in the future or hire someone else to do it for you.

We will allot up to 3 hours for this service.

We don't earn commissions or benefit in any way from any product recommendation. We are not brand loyal.

This service is $300 - $500 depending on the size of your home. For instance a small condo would be on the lower end while a larger home will be on the higher end. If I have to travel more than 10 miles to your location there will be a travel cost of up to $100.
